To facilitate student travel in Lahore, district authorities have instructed private schools to provide transportation services.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Secretary of the District Registering Authority/District Education Authority (DEA) Lahore has mandated that leading private schools in the city must ensure transport is available for at least 50% of their students by October 1, 2024. Non-compliance will lead to strict action under the applicable rules.
During a meeting held on September 11, the District Registering Authority Lahore discussed the implementation of a Lahore High Court directive, requiring private schools to offer transportation for half of their student body.
According to letters sent to the principals and owners of major private schools, the court’s directive must be fully enforced. Schools are required to either arrange or hire buses to transport at least 50% of their enrolled students.
Moreover, schools must share route plans with parents and ensure all vehicles are properly maintained. This includes holding valid fitness certificates, undergoing safety checks before trips, and ensuring vehicles are free of mechanical issues such as tire pressure or brake problems. Drivers must hold valid licenses, be physically fit, and provide identification and contact details to the school.
The number of students must not exceed the vehicle’s seating capacity, with overloading strictly prohibited. These measures are to be fully in place by October 1, 2024.
