Traffic wardens in Lahore have started wearing body cameras, with the initial rollout taking place on Mall Road.
According to the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore, Dr. Athar Waheed, the cameras are intended to record complete evidence during the issuance of traffic challans.
Dr. Waheed explained that these body cameras will also aid in legal proceedings against individuals who interfere with public duties. Furthermore, the footage can be used to monitor protests, rallies, and other public disturbances.
The CTO stated that the cameras, attached to the wardens’ uniforms, will serve as crucial evidence in case of any incidents or crimes on the road.
Additionally, the live position of traffic staff can also be tracked, improving management and response.
He added that this advanced technology will not only enhance transparency but also encourage more responsible behavior among the public and wardens alike.
