LAHORE: Renowned screenwriter Khalil ur Rehman backed the statement of Model Sadaf Kanwal on feminism and a woman’s role in a marriage, which left the internet scratching its collective head.
In an interview, when asked about her views on Aurat March and feminism, Sadaf said, “Our culture is our husband. I married him, which means I have to pick up his shoes and iron his clothes. I know where all of Shahroz’s things are and what and when he has to eat.”
“I need to know these things because I am his wife and I am a woman. He doesn’t have to know the same about me. This is what I believe because this is what I’ve grown up seeing. This feminism that has become a part of our lives, it’s because of liberals,” the model said.
In response to her statement, social activist Tahira Abdullah lashes out at the Model and said, “Whatever she is doing she must do that in her house but she don’t have a right to impose her thoughts on anyone, who is she to tell us that we should iron our husband’s clothes or polish their shoes.”
Later, screenwriter Khalil ur Rehman came into support of Sadaf Kanwal and also lambasted Tahira Abdullah for calling out the model. “Sadaf Kanwal has not imposed anything on anyone, whatever she is doing at her home for her husband is her personal act,” he said.
“Where is it even happening in the houses, if a lady is doing such things for her husband it is not wrong at all. Sadaf Kanwal has not said anything wrong. People can do whatever they want to do. No one has the right to shout and impose their rules on anyone,” he added.
It may be recalled that Sadaf Kanwal and Shehroz Sabzwari were married last year. This is Shehroz Sabzwari‘s second marriage. He also has a daughter with his ex-wife Syra Yousuf.
