DELHI: Kashmiri leader and son-in-law of late Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Altaf Hussain Shah, passed away while being in the custody of Indian forces, in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Tuesday.
Altaf Hussain Shah, 66, was suffering from cancer while being in the custody of the Indian administration and shifted to AIIMS from Tihar jail for treatment a few days ago, where he breathed his last.
Reacting strongly to his death in Indian custody, the Legal Forum of Kashmir called it a murder.

It may be recalled that Altaf Husain Shah was arrested by the NIA in 2018, along with several other leaders on charges of funding a terror incident and imprisoned in Tihar Jail.
His daughter Ruwa Shah narrated that Altaf Hussain Shah was diagnosed with renal cancer that spread to other parts of his body, after which he was taken to Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) hospital which had no oncology department.
Shah is survived by his wife, a son, and two daughters.
