KARACHI: Famous food street Burns Road will become traffic-free from January 10 under an initiative from the Sindh government.
According to a notification issued by the Deputy Commissioner South, the Burns Road food street will only be used by pedestrians from January 10. Local residents would be issued special stickers for their vehicles to enter the restricted area.
Those coming to the food street will be provided with valet parking services under which the vehicles would be parked at designated slots. The valet service will also handle the traffic included the vehicles of the residents of the blocked streets.
The notification said that special passage would be left for emergency services at the street despite its complete closure for the traffic. There will also be markings on both sides of the road beyond which restaurants will not be permitted to place their chairs, tables, or stalls.
According to the traffic plan, Shahra-e-Liaqat would be blocked for traffic from Fresco Chowk to Court Road after 7:00 PM. The traffic flow from Aramnagh to Fresco would be diverted to MA Jinnah Road or towards People’s Square.
The commercial vehicles coming from Saddar towards the food street will be diverted to MA Jinnah Road at Regal Chowk, while the traffic coming generally will be diverted at Court Road intersection towards Sindh Secretariat on the left side and towards Urdu Bazaar on the right side.
The roads from Fresco roundabout to Fatima Jinnah Women College would be designated for pedestrians. The residents of the streets on Shahrah-e-Liaquat would be issued stickers for their vehicles to park within the area.
