The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has reported that Cyclone Asna is moving westward away from the Sindh coast. However, parts of the coastal region, including Karachi, are expected to experience more heavy rain today.
The port city received a significant downpour on Saturday morning, and gusty winds continue to affect the metropolis. On Friday evening, trees were felled in various parts of the city due to strong winds generated by the cyclone in the Arabian Sea.
The deep depression, which originated over the Rann of Kutch coast, is currently located 170 km south of Karachi and 88 km south of the Thatta district. According to the latest advisory from the PMD, the depression is expected to continue moving west/northwest.
As a result, widespread rain and thunderstorms are anticipated, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in the Karachi division, Tharparkar, Badin, Thatta, Sajawal, Hyderabad, T.M. Khan, T.A. Yar, Matiari, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Jamshoro, Dadu, and Shaheed Benazirabad districts until August 31.
On Saturday, heavy rains may lead to flooding in low-lying areas of Sindh, Balochistan, and southern Punjab, the Met Office warned. There is also a possibility of flash flooding in the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan and local streams in Karachi, Hyderabad, Dadu, Kalat, Khuzdar, Jaffarabad, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Barkhan, Loralai, Awaran, Panjgur, Washuk, Mastung, and Lasbella.
