KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) today (Monday) issued a heatwave alert in Karachi for the next two days during which temperature is expected to soar as high as 40 degrees centigrade.
According to the meteorological department, the temperature in the port city might reach 38 to 40 degrees centigrade on March 30 and March 31. However, due to moderate humidity, a heatwave is unlikely to occur, the PMD added.
“Hot desert winds from Balochistan are likely to blow over the city between morning and noon during the two days, and southwesterly winds are expected to resume during the evening hours,” the meteorological department said.
The people of Karachi have been advised to stay indoors during the daytime. Experts have recommended that keeping oneself hydrated and eating fruits high in water content during the heatwave is also helpful.
During the previous heatwave in October 2020, the PMD urged the authorities concerned to take necessary measures and advised people to take precautions and avoid open sun exposure during peak heat hours – 11am to 4pm.
