Karachi and interior Sindh are set to endure an extended cold wave for the next 10 days, with temperatures expected to drop further, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
In Karachi, temperatures are predicted to reach single digits over the next two to three days, with intermittent gusty winds adding to the chill. On Sunday night, the city experienced its coldest night of the season as the temperature dipped to 8.9°C.
Rural Sindh, particularly in districts like Tharparkar and Umerkot, is expected to see minimum temperatures dropping up to 6°C below the seasonal average.
Specific areas in Karachi recorded varying lows: Jinnah Terminal hit 8.9°C, Gulistan-e-Jauhar 10.5°C, Shahrah-e-Faisal 11.5°C, and Mauripur 12.5°C, as reported by Express News. Despite the cold mornings and nights, daytime temperatures in Karachi are expected to reach around 27°C.
Nationwide, a severe cold wave continues to grip the country, with mountainous regions experiencing heavy snowfall. In Skardu, temperatures have plunged to minus 7°C, while Quetta recorded minus 4°C. Other regions such as Kalam and Malam Jabba saw lows of minus 3°C, and Parachinar and Chitral recorded minus 2°C. Peshawar registered a relatively milder temperature of 2°C.
The PMD forecasts predominantly cold and dry weather across most parts of the country today. However, light rain and snowfall are likely in parts of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan later in the evening or at night.
