KARACHI: Wednesday marked Karachi’s hottest day of the year thus far, as temperatures climbed to 41.5 degrees Celsius, just 10 days after breaching the 40°C mark for the first time this summer, as per data from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
On May 19, the PMD registered a peak temperature of 40.2°C in Karachi, representing a notable increase of 4.4°C from the monthly average of 35.8°C for May, making it the highest temperature recorded in 2024 up to that point.
Today, Karachi experienced a scorching high of 41.5°C, deviating significantly from the city’s usual temperature of 35.8 degrees Celsius, according to the latest data from the Met Office.
Moreover, a weather update from the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Karachi warned of impending heatwave conditions affecting Karachi divisions, Thatta, Badin, and Sujawal districts from today until June 1, with daytime maximum temperatures projected to reach 41-43°C in Karachi and 43-45°C in Thatta, Badin, and Sujawal during this period.
Beyond Karachi, Sindh experienced severe heatwave conditions, with Moenjodaro, Larkana, and Jacobabad recording temperatures soaring to 50 degrees Celsius. Dadu reached 49 degrees, Sukkur 48 degrees, and Sahiwal 46 degrees.
