Karachi authorities have preemptively blocked roads along the processional routes by placing containers on key highways in anticipation of the central Muharram processions on the 8th, 9th, and 10th of Muharram.
Officials have announced that the traffic police security branch has developed a traffic diversion plan for these days. Below are the details of the main Muharram procession and alternative traffic routes.
For all three days, the main procession will depart from Nishtar Park and conclude at Hussainia Iranian Imambargah, following its traditional route. MA Jinnah Road will be closed from Gurumandir to Tower for security reasons.
Alternative Routes
District Central
- Travelers from Nazimabad can use Lasbela Chowk to Nishtar Road via Garden.
- Those coming from Liaquatabad can turn from Teen Hati to Lasbela Chowk and head left towards Central Jail (Martin Road).
- Commuters from Hassan Square to PP Chowrangi can use Kashmir Road to Society Light Signal (Sharea Quaideen), and from Jail Flyover to Teen Hati to Nishtar Road (Lasbela Chowk).
District East
- Commuters heading to Naumaish from Sharea Faisal to Sharea Quaideen (Noorani Kebab) can proceed via Kashmir Road on the right side of Society Light Signal.
- Travelers from Central Jail gate (Jamshed Road) towards Gurumandir and MA Jinnah Road can use Gurumandir to Bahadur Yar Jung Road, Soldier Bazaar.
District South
- Travelers from Garden Zoo to MA Jinnah Road can use Ankle Saria to Gul Plaza on the right and Coast Guards and Holy Family Hospital on the left to reach their destination.
Heavy Traffic
- Heavy and commercial traffic from Super Highway, Gulberg to MA Jinnah Road will be diverted from Liaquatabad No-10 to Nazimabad Chowrangi No-2 via Habib Bank Flyover, State Avenue Road, Shershah to Mauripur.
- Heavy traffic from National Highway, either via Highway Faisal or Rashid Minhas Road, Stadium Road, Sir Shah Suleman Road, Hassan Square, Liaquatabad No. 10, Nazimabad Chowrangi No. 2, Habib Bank Flyover, State Avenue Road, Shershah to Mauripur will be allowed.
- All types of traffic will be restricted from the procession route beyond Gurumandir Chowk and diverted towards Bahadur Yar Jung Road, Soldier Bazaar. Only vehicles with procession stickers will be permitted on MA Jinnah Road, entering through Highway Leaders Society Light Signal.
Procession Participants
- Participants from Nazimabad, Lasbella, Albella, and Garden Jamaat Khana should proceed to Naumaish via Soldier Bazar No. 3 Light Signal.
- Those from Liaquatabad should join via Teen Hati, Jahangir Road, and Gurumandir to Naumaish.
- Participants from Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Gulshan-e-Iqbal should join via University Road, Purani Sabzi Mandi, Kashmir Road, and Society Light Signal to Naumaish.
- Vehicles joining the procession for Sabeel, Niaz, or Tabrak Taqeem can only enter the procession at Tower and Memon Mosque. No vehicles are allowed to park on the procession route.
