KARACHI: A sessions court in Karachi sentenced a man to prison for two years for marrying an underage girl.
The father of the girl initiated legal proceedings, asserting that his daughter had been married unlawfully.
Additional Sessions Judge Irshad Hussain delivered the verdict concerning a petition filed against Muhammad Aslam, accused of marrying the underage girl.
During the trial, the prosecution team presented evidence suggesting that the suspect had entered into marriage with the minor girl through a court, deceitfully stating her age as 19 in the documents. However, a medical report revealed her true age to be 15 years.
Following the father’s complaint, a kidnapping case was registered at Mominabad Police Station. The prosecution pursued charges against witnesses, the marriage officiant, and others under the Child Restraint Marriage Act.
In her testimony, the girl claimed she had consented to the marriage voluntarily. Nevertheless, Aslam was convicted and sentenced to jail for marrying the underage girl.
