Karachi is currently grappling with a fuel shortage as the Petroleum Dealers Association’s strike has caused widespread disruption throughout Pakistan.
The association called for a shutdown of fuel stations starting from 6 AM today in protest against the federal government’s recent imposition of new taxes on petrol sales, demanding their rollback.
This protest has significantly affected Karachi, where many petrol pumps closed early, leading to heightened congestion at the few stations that remained open. Public transport services have been notably impacted, resulting in reduced vehicle availability on the city’s roads.
Meanwhile, the Oil Tanker Owners Association has distanced itself from the strike, assuring that essential services such as railways, airports, and power plants continue to receive fuel supplies.
Despite the disruption, the Pakistan State Oil (PSO) has assured the public of uninterrupted supply nationwide, reaffirming the operational integrity of its supply chain. PSO remains committed to maintaining stocked petrol stations and ensuring continuous availability of petroleum products throughout the protest period.
A spokesperson for PSO reiterated their dedication to serving the public, emphasizing their readiness to manage the ongoing situation effectively.
