Bathinda police chief SSP Amneet Kondal stated that the main accused is Amritpal Singh Mehron, who was involved in plotting and executing the event. Police say the accused objected to Kanchan Kumari’s social media content, calling it bold, “immoral,” and “vulgar.”
In videos on social media, Amritpal Singh Mehron is seen angry at influencers’ content, stating it does not align with Punjab’s traditions. Mehron objected to non-Sikh individuals using the honourable titles “Kaur” and “Singh” to create what he called insulting content disrespecting Sikh traditions.
After the murder, Mehron posted videos justifying the killing and issuing threats against other influencers in Punjab. In these videos, Mehron described the content shared by youth as “immoral,” stating that it affects future generations and children’s perceptions.
Regarding Kanchan Kumari’s murder, he said, “This should have been done seven years ago.” He further warned that if such content appears again, “we will not hesitate to take lives.”
