In a move aimed at enhancing transparency and customer empowerment, K-Electric (KE) has introduced a dedicated microsite allowing consumers to track electricity supply details and the loss profile of their respective areas.
Through this portal, consumers within KE’s service regions can now access real-time updates about their locality’s electricity network using their KE Account Number. This initiative is designed to increase public awareness and encourage community-wide accountability.
A spokesperson for KE said the effort is part of the company’s ongoing commitment to promote responsible usage and timely bill payment, which can lead to reduced load-shedding. The representative added, “We want to give people access to the information that directly affects their power supply. It’s a step toward greater engagement between KE and the communities we serve.”
Currently, 70% of KE’s feeder network is exempt from load-shedding, a significant increase from 6.6% at the time of privatization. The spokesperson noted that the remaining areas still face issues primarily due to electricity theft and non-payment, which KE continues to tackle through direct intervention and collaboration with law enforcement.
Since January 2025, KE has carried out over 13,400 anti-theft drives, during which approximately 171,298 kilograms of illegal connections (kundas) were removed. These operations aim to restore normalcy and promote lawful energy consumption.
The new online platform also includes educational resources highlighting the legal risks of electricity theft and provides a mechanism for anonymous reporting via speakup@ke.com.pk. Additionally, it offers actionable suggestions for how residents can help improve their area’s feeder status by fostering a culture of regular bill payment.
KE encourages its customers to use the platform actively and support initiatives that contribute to a more reliable and sustainable power supply across Karachi.
