Justice (r) Altaf Ibrahim Qureshi to become acting CEC

ISLAMABAD: Justice retired Altaf Ibrahim Qureshi is scheduled to take the oath as the acting chief election commissioner (CEC) today.

Altaf Ibrahim Qureshi will take the oath under Article 217 of the Constitution today.

Altaf Ibrahim Qureshi replaced Chief Election Commissioner retired Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza as he was retired from his post after his tenure ended yesterday.

Justice retired Altaf Ibrahim Qureshi, ECP member from Punjab, is the senior among the only two members of the incomplete commission, will take the oath as the acting CEC.

The oath-taking ceremony of the acting chief election commissioner will be held today in the Election Commission.

The parliamentary committee meeting to appoint a permanent chief commissioner will be held on 9th December.

The Chief Election Commissioner is the authority and the appointed chair of the Election Commission of Pakistan, an institution constitutionally empowered to conduct free and fair elections to the national and provincial legislatures.
