ISLAMABAD: The Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has demanded the Pakistan Election Commission to hold fresh general elections in the country, saying that Prime Minister Imran Khan was “ineligible to run the country”.
“Powerful forces should protect the nation and not side with this ineligible government,” the JUI-F chief said while addressing a workers convention in Islamabad today (Thursday).
He also dispelled the notion that the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) was fragmenting and the Opposition alliance was about to break up. “We will not disappoint the nation. The anti-government movement is very much alive,” he added.
“Taking along numerous parties in an alliance is the most difficult part of politics,” he said, adding that everyone has its own beliefs and objectives. “The PDM has to go through these circumstances, but God willing, we will move forward in an amicable manner,” he added.
He further said if someone breaks away from the alliance the journey towards the destination goes on. “The only thing that matters is whether your stance is supported by the masses or not,” he added. The PDM chief said that the alliance will move forward with a new strategy and will not let the government rest.
A day ago, the PDM had decided to postpone its planned long march meant to oust the PTI-led government because the PPP had shown reservations regarding the submission of resignations to the parliament before the march.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that PPP will be given the due time to think things through but added that the behaviour of the PPP during the PDM meeting was “undemocratic.”
