ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Member National Assembly (MNA) Jam Abdul Karim, who is accused in the murder of Nazim Jokhio, has been placed on the no-fly list.
Abdul Karim is expected to return from Dubai after receiving 10-day protective bail from the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday. He has, however, been placed on the the Exit Control List (ECL) on the recommendation of the interior ministry along with nine other suspects.
The ministry has also directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to contact Interpol to issue Abdul Karim’s red arrest warrants.
The lawmaker is expected to arrive in Islamabad on March 29 from Dubai and cast his vote during the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Abdul Karim’s lawyer filed the bail application on Friday which was granted till April 3. The court ordered him to submit surety bonds of Rs100,000. The court also directed the lawmaker to surrender before the trial by April 3.
Karim fled to Dubai after being accused along with his brother Jam Awais of murdering Nazim Jokhio in Memon Goth area of Karachi for stopping their foreign friends from hunting endangered Houbara bustards.
A Joint Investigation Team formed to probe the murder named Awais and Karim as prime accused and recommended punishment for them. According to the interim charge sheet filed by the police in the court, 22 suspects, including the lawmakers, two foreign guests, servants and guards have been nominated in case.
Jokhio was reportedly beaten to death for filming some foreign friends of Jam Awais from hunting Houbara bustards in Memon Goth. The group attacked Nazim Jokhio with fists and sticks while a video of the incident went viral. His tortured body was found from Awais’ farmhouse in Malir.
