LAHORE: A joint petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) over curbing the regulation of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras.
A joint petition of an activist Salman Sufi, and gender reform specialist in Lahore has approached the LHC over the privacy issues of individuals in public places.
A joint petition filed raised substantial privacy concerns. In its plea, it argued that the secret filming, recording, and photography of individuals in public and private places was unconstitutional.

Furthermore, installing CCTV surveillance cameras without signage, to warn the public that they were being recorded, was a breach of privacy, which was a fundamental right guaranteed by the Constitution.
The petitioners have urged the court to direct the ministry of law and justice to recommend necessary legislation needed to curb the excessive use of security cameras.
