KARACHI: The Chief of Jamat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Chapter Hafiz Naeemur Rahman has warned that his party would resort to agitation if the schedule of Local Government elections on remaining Union Council seats is not announced in two days time.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, the JI Karachi Chief said the LG election process had been on standstill, asking under what pressure the dates of elections were not being given for the remaining Karachi UCs. He alleged that the Election Commission (ECP) had become a tool of the Sindh government, and that if the date was announced in next 2 days, the JI would resort to stage protest.

Hafiz Naeemur Rahman said in the past, LG elections were held on the same constituencies, and that the JI did not want to run away from the election by making excuse of delimitations. “Despite all the tactics, Jamaat-e-Islami secured most of the votes while there had been constant attempts to change the election results, ” he alleged, adding that the city (Karachi) voted for the JI and its mandate must be recognized.

he said Karachi was the heart and mind of Pakistan and therefore the city couldn’t be ignored. “No matter how much one ignores Karachi, it has its own importance. Karachi wants the best transport system. It is the responsibility of the Sindh government to provide the best facilities,” he added.
