KARACHI: Jamat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Chapter has announced to stage sit-in before the Chief Minister House in the Metropolis on Thursday (Jan 5) to register their protest against delay in Local Government elections.

The announcement to this effect was made by JI Karachi Chief Hafiz Naeem ur Rahman while speaking at a press conference here on Wednesday.
Hafiz Naeem ur Rahman said Karachi gave too much to the country but in return, neither federal nor provincial governments gave anything back to the city, and even those who claimed to be representing the local population did nothing for the metropolis.
He said excuses were being made to run away from Local Government elections while on the other side, JI not only raised its voice for demand for elections but also approached courts for the same purpose. He said both PTI and MQM were responsible for the current census, and had both been sincere, would have get corrections made in the census results.

The JI Karachi Chief said his party’s stance was clear, that it wanted LG polls on January 15, and any delay on the basis of delimitations or any other excuse wasn’t appropriate.
Hafiz Naeem ur Rahman said LG polls had been delayed in Karachi for three times, the metropolis was faced with worst conditions and it was the right of the masses to elect their representatives. He said PPP and MQM were responsible for postponement of elections in the past, and there was no room for any ethnic politics in the city. On this occasion, he announced that the JI would stage sit-in before CM House tomorrow (Thursday).
