Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has announced a nationwide shutter down strike on April 22, aimed at showing solidarity with the people of Palestine amidst ongoing tensions and violence in Gaza. The announcement came from JI leader Hafiz Naeemur Rehman during a massive gathering at the “Palestine March” held in Karachi on Sunday.
Rehman declared, “On April 22, we will implement a complete shutdown across the country to express unity with Gaza. This initiative has received support from the Palestinian leadership.” He also emphasized plans to collaborate with other Islamic organizations worldwide to coordinate collective actions on the same day.
He appealed to the public to persist in boycotting international products and actively supporting the Palestinian cause through sustained efforts.
Moreover, he urged Pakistan’s Prime Minister and Army Chief to assume a leadership role in championing Palestine’s rights. He called on all political parties to distance themselves from Israeli interests, strongly condemn Israeli aggression, and stand united for the Palestinian cause.
Highlighting the importance of a unified defense strategy, Rehman emphasized that “the spirit of jihad cannot be diminished by empty rhetoric,” while advocating for a summit of Muslim countries to discuss military strategies and collective defense measures.
