Amir Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, has announced a nationwide shutterdown strike on August 28 in protest against the rising inflation and soaring electricity tariff.
Addressing a rally in Multan, Hafiz Naeem expressed strong criticism of the current government, accusing it of imposing unbearable inflation and unemployment on the public.
“We did not go home after making deals with the government. We remain firm on our demands. If these are not met, we will march towards Islamabad with a sea of people,” he warned.
Referring to the recent reduction in electricity tariffs, he said, “Today they have announced a reduction of Rs14 per unit. The public should note who stood firm on this issue and whose efforts led to this reduction. It’s not about taking credit, but we will not accept expensive electricity in any case.”
Hafiz Naeem also questioned why Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif cannot extend this relief across the country if Nawaz Sharif can announce a reduction in electricity prices in Punjab. He suggested that gradually eliminating interest-based loans could provide further relief on electricity bills.
