Javed Akhtar has officially withdrawn his defamation case after receiving a written apology from Kangana Ranaut. In her letter, she expressed regret and unconditionally retracted all her previous statements, promising never to repeat them.
According to Indian media, the veteran lyricist confirmed that this was all he had sought from the beginning. With her apology in place, he saw no reason to continue the legal proceedings.
The case stemmed from allegations made by Kangana, who claimed that she was summoned to the writer’s residence and threatened over her comments regarding her alleged relationship with Hrithik Roshan.
In response, Javed Akhtar filed a detailed defamation suit, firmly denying the accusations and emphasizing that such a confrontation never took place. Sources close to him insisted that he is known for his tolerance but felt that the matter had gone on for too long without accountability.
Determined to set an example, he pursued legal action to make it clear that public figures should not be unfairly maligned under the assumption that they would not retaliate.
Kangana Ranaut has frequently found herself at the center of controversies, often making bold and unfiltered statements about Bollywood, politics, and public figures. While her outspoken nature has earned her a dedicated following, it has also led to several legal disputes and public feuds.
On the other hand, Javed Akhtar is a highly respected lyricist and writer in the Indian film industry, known for penning iconic songs and scripts over several decades. Unlike many in the entertainment industry, he generally steers clear of controversies. However, he took a firm stand in this case, believing it was necessary to challenge what he saw as defamatory and baseless claims.
