ISLAMABAD: A local court in Islamabad today (Sunday) has granted a three-day physical remand of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel arrested for gunning down a 22-year-old young man, Usama, in a staged encounter.
According to details, the federal police presented the arrested officials before the court and sought their physical remand for investigation. The Investigation Officer (IO) told the court that the weapons were yet to be recovered.
In response to another question, the investigation officer further said that the arrested five cops were assigned the same patrol vehicle. Chief Commissioner Islamabad Amir Ahmed Ali constituted a joint investigation team (JIT) to probe the death of the young man.
SP Saddar Sarfraz Virk has been named as the head of the JIT while the DSP Ramna, DSP investigation, the SHO of the Ramna police station and representatives of intelligence agencies will join the team as its members.
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed also visited the house of 22-year-old Usama to extend his condolence to the bereaved family. Speaking on the occasion, he assured the deceased youth’s family of provision of justice.
The deceased’s father demanded that a high court judge carry out a judicial inquiry into his son’s murder. However, the interior minister said that the government would order a judicial probe if law permits.
