ISLAMABAD: Former Member National Assembly (MNA) Ali Wazir has been arrested by Islamabad Police.
Wazir was arrested by Tarnol Police Station for meddling in the government’s affairs, the police said. He was in the federal capital to address a protest sit-in of the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM).
The PTM held a protest gathering at Tarnol after being denied entry to hold the rally outside the Supreme Court building. They are demanding the rights of the Pashtuns and an end to enforced disappearances.
Earlier, Police also arrested Imaan Mazari, the daughter of former PTI leader Shireen Mazari. from her residence in Islamabad.
The former minister said that policemen in plain clothes, including women personnel and paratroopers, took away her daughter Imaan Hazir Mazari.
Shireen Mazari strongly condemned the incident, saying the personnel barged into her house by breaking down the front door of their house.
She expressed her dismay over the overnight action by law enforcers, who not only apprehended her daughter but also confiscated security cameras, Imaan’s laptop, and phone.
Mazari revealed that she asked them about their purpose but they dragged Imaan and proceeded to search every corner of her house. She added that this was done without any search or arrest warrant.
Mazari termed the entire episode as ‘state fascism’ and a kidnapping rather than a lawful apprehension.
Meanwhile, former foreign minister and PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi was also arrested in Islamabad yesterday in the cypher inquiry case.
The FIA arrested Qureshi after a case was registered against him and PTI chairman under the Official Secrets Act for his alleged role in leaking the missing document.
