Islamabad has earned a place among the top 100 safest cities globally, outperforming several major international capitals, including London, New York, and Paris, according to the World Safety Index 2025 released by Numbeo.
With a safety score of 67.9, Islamabad ranks significantly higher than London (270th, 45.8), Paris (303rd, 41.9), and Berlin (187th, 55.3). The capital also surpasses regional peer Lahore (130th, 63.1) and global cities such as Moscow (118th, 64.6), Sydney, Toronto, and Barcelona.
This recognition follows earlier acknowledgment from the United Nations, which designated Islamabad a “family station” for its international staff, further affirming its reputation as a secure and livable city.
This achievement is widely credited to the effective leadership of Islamabad’s Inspector General of Police, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi. Under his command, the Islamabad Police have implemented robust security strategies that have led to a measurable decline in crime.
According to the police spokesperson, the capital has seen a 20 percent drop in overall crime in 2025 compared to the previous year, reflecting the success of comprehensive policing reforms and the dedicated efforts of law enforcement personnel.
The city’s improved safety ranking underscores Islamabad’s growing profile as a secure, well-managed urban center on the global stage.
