ISLAMABAD: An Islamabad court on Saturday accepted review plea, filed by Islamabad Police challenging refusal of physical remand of PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry by Judicial Magistrate the other day, and ordered to produce him before the Magistrate immediately. Accepting the petition, filed by the police, Judge also ordered revocation of the judgement passed by a magistrate yesterday that sent the ex-minister on judicial remand.
He was remanded in Judicial Custody for 14 days when a district and session court on Thursday sent him to Adiala jail, rejecting police request for extension of physical remand.
On Saturday, not only the Islamabad Police challenged the rejection of their plea for more physical remand, but Fawad Chaudhry too challenged the same verdict, seeking dismissal of case against him.
Fawad’s lawyers submitted a petition that the PTI leader should be discharged from the case instead of being sent on a judicial remand. Accepting the plea for hearing.
However, it has been learnt that the court swiftly made sure that Fawad Chaudhry received notices on plea of police in Adiala Jail, challenging the rejection of their physical remand request.
It may be recalled that Chaudhry was taken into custody on Wednesday for allegedly “inciting violence against a constitutional institution” — the ECP. A first information report (FIR) against him was registered at Islamabad’s Kohsar police station on a complaint of Election Commission Secretary Umar Hameed.
