The slowdown of internet services in Pakistan over last two weeks has added to the challenges faced by freelancers and digital entrepreneurs, as users across the country experience connectivity issues.
Experts attribute the decline in internet speed to increased internet traffic monitoring, which has led to a significant drop in speed. While the recent measures implemented by the current government may enhance surveillance, they appear to be disrupting digital services and access to social media platforms.
A report published by a digital outlet highlighted a 30 to 40 percent decrease in internet speed, causing substantial difficulties for businesses and individuals who depend on high-speed connectivity.
This situation is proving to be more than just an inconvenience for citizens; it is also a serious concern for industries like e-commerce, freelancers, and those managing other digital businesses. These sectors were once seen as key to boosting Pakistan’s digital economy, but the current internet slowdown is hindering their growth.
In light of these challenges, several entrepreneurs are considering relocating abroad, where internet services are more reliable.
The head of the Wireless & Internet Service Providers Association of Pakistan has also raised concerns about the potential exodus of businesses from the country if the government does not address the issue.
