Several regions in Pakistan are currently experiencing disruptions in internet services, leaving Pakistani internet users frustrated. Despite the issues, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has not provided any updates regarding the technical glitch.
With no official communication from either the national telecom authority or Internet Service Providers (ISPs), concerned netizens have turned to social media platforms to express their inability to connect online. Reports indicate that in some areas, internet speeds have significantly slowed down.
While it’s common practice in Pakistan to suspend mobile and internet services on special occasions such as Eid, Muharram, and Independence Day due to security concerns, the government has not made any announcement regarding the suspension of services for Eid-ul-Fitr, scheduled for Wednesday.
The disruption of internet services has paralyzed online activities across the country, leading to not only inconvenience for the public but also financial and business losses. This practice of suspending mobile and internet services during special occasions began around two decades ago, in response to the rise of terrorism, particularly suicide bombings. Despite a decrease in terrorist incidents in recent years, the government continues to implement precautionary measures to safeguard the lives of citizens.
