A local court in Karachi has cancelled the interim bail of the accused Zeeshan for marrying a minor girl who is studying in the fifth grade. Upon hearing the court’s decision, the accused fled from the courtroom.
The hearing on the accused’s interim bail in the case of marrying a minor girl was held in the court of the Additional District and Sessions Judge (West). When the court cancelled the interim bail, the accused fled immediately after the verdict was announced.
Advocate Mehnaz Afridi stated that the accused married a fifth-grade girl and a case was registered against him under the Sindh Child Marriage Act. A test was conducted to determine the girl’s age, which confirmed she is indeed of that age.
According to the complainant’s lawyer, the court revoked the interim bail of the accused after considering the arguments. A case had been registered against the accused at the Mominabad Police Station.
It is worth noting that, under certain conservative traditions, the practice of child marriage still persists in many families, even though laws against it are now being enforced. After arrests, hearings are held in courts.
This is not the first time an accused has fled the courtroom upon hearing a verdict. In the past as well, many suspects have escaped the courtroom allegedly with police connivance. However, the police have failed to curb such crimes.
