LOS ANGELES: Actor Matt LeBlanc has revealed that he and Lisa Kudrow insisted the makers of US hit sitcom “Friends” to depict their on-screen romance.
The series showed a love bond between Ross and Rachel, while two other characters Monica and Chandler eventually got married in the show, while Joey and Phoebe stayed friends.
However, it turns out that both actors Lisa Kudrow, played by Phoebe and Matt LeBlanc, played by Joey also hoped that by the end of the show, makers might progress on their love interest plot too but it never happened.
During an interview, LeBlanc revealed that he and Kudrow were all up for their characters being a couple but the writers rejected the idea. Moreover, Friends writer David Crane explained that Phoebe and Joey’s friendship never led to a romantic relationship.
“It all would have been too tidy and too complete,” Crane admitted. “When your goal is to keep the six characters in stories together, it would be really easy to go down that road but I think we all felt it would be a mistake.”
The reunion special of the hit sitcom ‘Friends’ that was supposed to air in May was recently postponed in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. The production will not go ahead at least until May due to rising health concerns amid the COVID-19 outbreak.
A new date has not been set as yet as it is unclear when any programming would be able to resume work. All six original cast members Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer will once again be seen together.
