Bhavana Pandey gained popularity after appearing on Netflix’s The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives. Coming from a non-film background, she married actor Chunky Panday in 1998, which introduced her to the glamorous world of Bollywood.
According to Indian media (Indian Express), during a recent interview, Bhavana reflected on how she initially felt insecure entering a space filled with “beautiful-looking people.” She shared that it was a challenging time for Chunky in his career, and her father had advised against their marriage.
In her conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Bhavana opened up about the insecurities she felt after marrying an actor. Despite the self-doubt, she didn’t have much time to process these emotions, as they welcomed their daughter Ananya within the first year of marriage.
“Things moved fast for us. I had only seen Chunky from a distance before marriage, so when I moved into his world, I felt insecure surrounded by successful and beautiful people. I wanted to be accepted by them and make Chunky proud of me,” she explained.
She credited Chunky for making her feel at ease, despite the difficulties they faced during his career downturn. “Chunky made me feel extremely comfortable. At that point, we were more of a team than anything else, and I supported him in my own way from home,” she added.
Bhavana also shared how Ananya’s birth, just nine months and sixteen days after their wedding, was an unexpected yet joyful event. “We became parents instead of dealing with insecurities. Thanks to Chunky’s support, I learned to overcome my fears.”
Reflecting on her childhood, Bhavana mentioned how her relationship with her parents was different, especially when she told them about her plans to marry Chunky. She recalled, “I didn’t even tell my dad first. I told my mom I wanted to marry him, and their reaction was, ‘What?’ I didn’t take their advice then, but I’m lucky, things turned out well.”
She also revealed how her father initially opposed the marriage, fearing for her future career in Mumbai. “He said, ‘You can’t marry him; he’s an actor, and we don’t know that world.’ But I was determined. Today, Chunky and my dad share a great bond, and I’m fortunate that everything worked out for us.”
