KARACHI: Sindh government has announced new COVID-19 restrictions for restaurants to be imposed from tomorrow (Tuesday) in order to control the spread of virus infections.
Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shalwani has imposed a ban on indoor dining services in all restaurants from Tuesday due to the second COVID-19 wave.
According to the new instructions, only open-air restaurants have been permitted to continue dine-in services. He directed all deputy commissioners of the city to ensure the implementation of new orders.
The Commissioner said that new restrictions will help in controlling the spread of the virus. It is worth mentioning here several areas of the metropolis have been already put under micro and smart lockdowns owing to the Covid-19 second wave.
Karachi has remained most affected by coronavirus after nearly 1322 cases and 16 deaths were reported from the city in the past 24 hours.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said that 16 more patients of COVID-19 died lifting the death toll to 2,845 and 1322 new cases reported when 10,837 tests were conducted raising the tally to 164,651 in the province.

Murad Ali Shah said that 10,837 samples were tested which diagnosed 13, 22 cases that constituted 12.2 percent current detection rate.
He added that so far 1,906,075 tests have been conducted against which 164,651 cases were detected, of the 89 percent or 146,466 patients have recovered, including 358 overnight.
There has been a resurgence of COVID-19 cases across the province. It has prompted the authorities to place several virus hotspots under micro smart lockdown, he added.
He said the government was concerned that hospitals in the city would be full like in June if people didn’t follow the SOPs. Murad said, “The easiest safety precaution that everyone must take is to wear a face mask when out in public, which can help slow the spread of the virus”.
CM Murad also urged citizens of the province to abide by the SOPs issued by the government in consultation with the WHO and other experts.
