Speaking at the NATO Summit, former U.S. President Donald Trump praised Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, calling him “a good man and an inspiring personality,” and claimed that he played a pivotal role in preventing a potential war between nuclear-armed neighbors India and Pakistan.
Trump asserted that tensions between the two South Asian rivals had escalated dangerously, but he intervened just in time by directly contacting leaders of both nations.
“If I hadn’t stepped in, the standoff between India and Pakistan could have escalated into full-blown war,” he said.
He recounted warning both countries that if they went to war, “there would be no trade deals” with the United States.
“I told Modi clearly—war means no trade,” Trump stated. “He understood and said he prefers trade over nuclear war.”
Trump also hinted at possible negotiations with Iran in the coming week.
“We are ready. If Iran is serious, a deal could be signed,” he said, without providing specifics.
In another significant remark, Trump suggested that the U.S. may consider providing anti-missile defense systems to Ukraine, similar to those supplied to Israel.
“The missile defense system we provided to Israel proved extremely effective,” he noted. “We’re evaluating whether Ukraine can receive similar support.”
