Malaysian authorities are working to rescue a 48-year-old woman from Andhra Pradesh, India, who fell into an eight-meter deep sinkhole after the pavement she was walking on suddenly collapsed.
The woman, identified as Vijayalakshmi from Animiganipalle village in Chittoor district, was seated on a roadside bench in Jalan India Masjid when the ground beneath her caved in, according to local police.

Videos circulating on social media show crowds gathering to watch rescue workers as they attempt to reach the sinkhole.
Dang Wangi District Police Chief ACP Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman reported that search and rescue teams have detected rock debris, believed to have resulted from the sinkhole, located four meters from its edge.
He mentioned that the team is working to remove the debris to see if any foreign objects, including the possibility of the victim being trapped, can be found.
As of Monday evening, there was still no indication of Vijayalakshmi’s whereabouts.
