ASSAM: The Indian government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has passed a bill to abolish all madrassas in the state of Assam.
Under the bill, all madrassas in the state of Assam will be converted into schools by April. The Hindutva party Bharatiya Janata Party approved the bill while the All India Democratic Movement including the Congress opposed the bill and walked out of the assembly.
Confirming this on Twitter, the Assam Education Minister said that he was happy to have the bill passed, adding that after the passage of the bill, all government-run madrassas would be converted into regular schools from 1st April 2021.
