The recent passing of the Citizenship Amendment Act has led to many protests in India, with quite a few people speaking up about the matter and condemning the act.

Recently, one of the protests by students of Jamia Millia Islamia University took a dark turn when the police used violence and excessive force against the protesters.
At the time, only a handful of Bollywood celebs – and John Cusack – spoke up about the matter, calling out the police brutality.

"Stand with our Muslim brothers and sisters and students in solidarity," said the actor.

Actor Sushant Singh was one of the few to partake in the protests himself. But slowly, as the protests continue, it’s becoming harder and harder to stay silent. It seems like a few have eventually found their voices.

Some Bollywood Actors, film directors could not help and wrote and share their displeasure on social media over the police brutalities in Jamia Islamia University Delhi.

As a parent and a citizen of india , I am deeply saddened by the unrest across various educational institutions of our country. I hope and pray for peace to return as soon as possible. Great teachers learn from their students. I salute the worlds youngest democracy.

My heart pains for the students of Jamia.
Don’t Be Silent, Don’t Be Violent.

If this is what’s gonna happen everytime a citizen expresses their view, forget #CAB, we should pass a bill and not call our country a democracy anymore! Beating up innocent human beings for speaking their mind? BARBARIC.

My mother is a Hindu, my biological father was a Christian, my adopted father – a Muslim. In all official documents, my religion status stays blank. Does religion determine I am an Indian? It never did and I hope it never does. #OneIndia #India

This has gone too far.. can’t stay silent any longer . This government is clearly fascist .. and it makes me angry to see voices that can actually make a difference stay quiet ..

— Anurag Kashyap (@anuragkashyap72) December 16, 2019

My heart goes out to all the students back home in Delhi. In a democracy like ours, its sad to see violence against citizens for voicing their opinion through peaceful protests. There should be no place for violence of any form & intent in our country. I strongly condemn this act

— Sidharth Malhotra (@SidMalhotra) December 16, 2019

There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest.
With the students and their democratic rights to protest ! I condemn violence against protesting students!!!!!
