Indian media has lambasted both the cricket board and the government, demanding a boycott of the match against Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup. Several former Indian cricketers have also criticized the decision to play against Pakistan.
Asia Cup, according to schedule released yesterday, is set to begin on September 9, with Pakistan and India facing off at least twice—and potentially three times—throughout the event. The first Pakistan-India group match is scheduled for September 14.
Indian media has begun calling for a boycott of the scheduled Asia Cup 2025 match against Pakistan, despite reports indicating that India cannot withdraw from the tournament or avoid the fixture.
According to reports, India is set to play against Pakistan as per the official schedule. Reports claim that during a recent Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting held in Dhaka, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) gave the green light to the tournament, confirming participation in all matches, including those against Pakistan.
Given that India is hosting Asia Cup 2025, reports assert that no changes to the venue or fixtures are feasible at this stage. BCCI sources said official discussions were held prior to final decisions, and the board has not issued any comments about a boycott after the schedule’s release.
