In a show of preparedness for potential wartime scenarios, the Indian Army conducted a full-scale blackout rehearsal late Sunday night in the Ferozepur cantonment area, following directives issued by the President of the Cantonment Board and the Station Commander.
During the exercise, authorities enforced strict blackout protocols and issued stern warnings against violations. Particular criticism was directed at individuals who failed to switch off vehicle lights during the drill.
“This is not about showing bravado — it’s a matter of national security. Such negligence will not be tolerated,” officials said, further questioning the local police’s lack of seriousness during the strategic exercise.
The blackout rehearsal took place amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the April 22 Pahalgam attack that left 26 civilians dead. The Modi-led government blamed Pakistan for the incident, despite no conclusive evidence, and vowed to hold the perpetrators accountable.
In the wake of the accusations, Indian forces reportedly increased cross-border firing along the Line of Control (LoC), seemingly in an attempt to provoke a response. Pakistani forces, according to military sources, responded with “measured and effective” retaliation, maintaining their defensive posture while warning against escalation.
