The Indian government has lifted the ban on YouTube channels that broadcast Pakistani dramas, other entertainment content, and artists’ social media feeds.
Following the April 22 attack in the tourist town of Pahalgam in Indian-occupied Kashmir, the Indian government had imposed restrictions on several Pakistani news channels, social media accounts of celebrities, and prominent entertainment YouTube channels showcasing Pakistani dramas.
The Indian government had banned the YouTube channels of ARY Digital, Geo TV and Hum TV, calling them a threat to national security.
Recently, reports emerged that India has lifted the ban on YouTube channels showing Pakistani dramas, after which these channels have become accessible to Indian viewers again.
No official statement has been issued by the Indian authorities on this restoration yet, however, media experts say that this move could be part of an effort to reduce digital tensions between the two countries and restore online dialogue.
Pakistani dramas are extremely popular in India, which is why when these channels were banned by India, the popularity of Pakistani dramas decreased somewhat.
But now that this ban has been lifted, it is hoped that Indian viewers will no longer have to use a VPN to watch Pakistani dramas and will be able to easily watch Pakistani dramas on YouTube.
On the other hand, Indian users are also claiming that they can see posts from some Pakistani artists on their timeline, which suggests that the ban on the accounts of some artists has also been lifted.
According reports, Ahad Raza Mir, Mawra Hocane, Yumna Zaidi and Danish Taimoor are among the celebrities whose accounts have been reinstated.
However, several accounts are still inaccessible to Indian users, including those of Mahira Khan, Fawad Khan, Wahaj Ali, Iqra Aziz, Farhan Saeed and Hania Aamir.
