The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary, Deodjit Sekiya, has confirmed that the Indian cricket team will adhere to the International Cricket Council (ICC) rules regarding the Champions Trophy, including the inclusion of Pakistan’s name on their jerseys.
According to the sports website CrickBuzz, the BCCI clarified that the Indian team will follow the official guidelines set by the ICC for the Champions Trophy. Recently, there had been rumors circulating on social media suggesting that India did not want to display the host country’s (Pakistan’s) name on their jersey. However, with this statement from the BCCI Secretary, the issue has been resolved.
When asked about the ICC’s official logo (which will include Pakistan’s name), BCCI Secretary Deodjit Sekiya confirmed that they would comply with the ICC’s instructions.
Typically, all teams participating in ICC events are required to follow the ICC’s directives, and each team must submit their playing and training kits for approval before the event starts.
In the 2017 Champions Trophy, all participating teams’ jerseys displayed the names of England and Wales. Similarly, during the 2023 World Cup, Pakistani players did not object to India’s name being included in the event’s branding.
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025, often referred to as the “Mini World Cup,” will begin on February 19, 2025, in Pakistan. India’s first match will be against Bangladesh on February 20, 2025, in Dubai.
Pakistan had previously agreed to a hybrid model under an agreement with the ICC, under which all international events between Pakistan and India will take place at neutral venues until 2028. Therefore, all of India’s matches in the 2025 Champions Trophy will be played in the United Arab Emirates.
