India comments on lifting ban from Pakistani artists

It’s been six years since Pakistani artists were banned in India and people still wonder when will the artist resume working across the border.

Many Pakistani artists like Fawad Khan, Atif Aslam, Ali Zafar, Mahira Khan, and more have cemented their careers in India.

Recently, India’s Information and Broadcasting minister Anurag Thakur attended the Shanghai Corporation Organisation Film Festival where

He was questioned if the ban on Pakistani artists will be lifted since the government invited Pakistan to the film festival. To this, he dodged the question and asked o stick to the SCO festival only. He chose to not comment anything about Pakistani artists’ ban upliftment.

Even in November 2022, the cinema wing of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) issued an open threat to Bollywood filmmakers stating that they will face dire consequences if they hire actors and artists from Pakistan.

Pakistani artists were banned in 2016 from working in India over the growing tension between both countries. In 2019, the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) once again announced a ban on Pakistani actors and artists in India in the wake of the Pulwama attack.

In 2021, India’s Raj Thackeray’s right-wing had issued a statement emphasizing that no Pakistani artiste will be allowed to work in India.
