In recent years, OTT platforms have become extremely popular in India, and the trend of filmmakers releasing their creations on these platforms has also significantly increased. This year, several magnificent masterpieces were presented to audiences through the web.
According to a report by Hungama Express on Wednesday, when assessing the popularity of web-released series, renowned director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s grand series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazar emerged as the most popular Indian web series of 2024.
Following that, the revenge-filled world of Mirzapur secured the second position, while the light-hearted comedy Panchayat and the thrilling Gyarah Gyarah took the third and fourth spots, respectively.
Citadel: Honey Bunny starring Varun Dhawan and Samantha claimed the fifth position, followed by Maamla Legal Hai in sixth place, Taza Khabar by Bhuwan Bam in seventh, Murder in Meham in eighth, Shekhar Home by K.K. Menon in ninth, and the comedy show The Great Indian KBC Show securing the tenth position.
It is worth noting that The Great Indian KBC Show is the first non-fiction series to make it to IMDb’s year-end list.
The web series list represents five subscription-based services, with three shows each from Netflix and Prime Video, two from JioCinema, and one each from Disney+ Hotstar and Zee5.
Speaking about this list, Tanya Bami, Head of Series at Netflix India, said, “We are truly happy to see our Indian series getting the most recognition. Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazar is our most exciting drama series yet and has become a cultural trend.”
