Protests erupted in several cities across Pakistan this week after police took into custody the leader of the far-right religious party Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).
Several major intercity highways were closed by police as protests broke out in Karachi, Lahore, outside the capital Islamabad and in several other areas. There were violent clashes and riots between police and activists of the party across the country.
After three days, law enforcement agencies moved in to clear the roads and arrested the protestors. The government subsequently announced to outlaw the party for violent protests and attacks on policemen.
