While incarcerated in Attock Jail, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan made it clear that he had been fighting for the last 27 years to make Pakistan a truly independent country, thus he would remain in Pakistan and would render any sacrifice to make the dream a reality rather than striking a deal or fleeing the country.
After meeting the ex-prime minister, his lawyer Advocate Shoaib Shaheen said that Khan has “ruled out any deal” and termed the perception of him settling abroad as baseless propaganda to dent his popularity.
According to Mr. Shaheen, Mr. Khan said he has neither assets nor bank accounts abroad.
The former premier also referred to early, transparent elections as “the panacea of all political, economic, and financial crises” that the nation experienced during the PDM’s 16-month administration.
According to Mr. Shaheen, in his address to the nation, Mr. Khan exhorted the populace to fight up for their rights and vowed to never submit to the techniques of the ruling class. He also stated that he was willing to serve a 100-year sentence if necessary.
The PTI chief was “worried about the people of Pakistan” amid the “deteriorating economic situation”.
The counsel also stated that all “180 cases” against the former premier were “politically engineered” and he had been granted bail in most of the cases.
The legal team would file for bail in the remaining cases soon, Mr Shaheen said, Mr Khan’s physician, Dr Faisal Sultan and other members of his legal team, including Salman Safdar, Ali Ijaz Buttar, Sheraz Ahmed Ranjha, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Naeem Haider Panjutha and Intazar Hussain Panjutha, were also present during the meeting.
