Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has strongly refuted claims made by Aleema Khan, the sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, regarding the former prime minister’s potential release from jail within twenty days.
Earlier, Aleema Khan had suggested that the government had indicated Imran Khan’s release within 20 days. Speaking to the media in Lahore, she had implied that the government was ‘compelled’ to act in response to growing public protests and unrest, particularly from PTI supporters.
According to Aleema Khan, the PTI’s ongoing protests had forced the government to consider releasing Imran Khan from custody, and she claimed that Barrister Gohar had met with him in Adiala jail to discuss this matter. She further stated that during their meeting, the PML-N government had expressed an intention to facilitate the former prime minister’s release, citing public discontent as a driving factor.
However, when contacted by media, Barrister Gohar categorically denied Aleema Khan’s claims of any negotiations with the government. “I have had no contact with the government on or before November 24,” he stated. He clarified that there had been no discussions with the government concerning Imran Khan’s release.
When asked specifically about Aleema Khan’s assertion that he had provided a timeline for Imran Khan’s release, Barrister Gohar firmly dismissed the claim, stating, “I neither discussed nor mentioned anything about his release.” He also rejected the notion that the government had promised to release Imran Khan within 20 days in exchange for halting the ongoing sit-in protests. “The claim about a 20-day timeline for his release is incorrect. The government never made such a promise,” he clarified.
In addition, Aleema Khan had expressed concerns about the speed of the legal process, particularly regarding the Jinnah House case. She called for expedited trials to avoid unnecessary delays and save time for all parties involved. She emphasized that the PTI leadership was not seeking bail but demanded that the trials begin without further delay.
Aleema Khan also criticized the prosecution for lacking substantial evidence, suggesting that the prolonged legal proceedings were wasting time and resources for everyone involved.
