Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, currently incarcerated at Adiala Jail, has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his governance and contributions to human rights and democracy.
Khan was previously nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2019 for his efforts to promote peace in South Asia.
The nomination was announced by members of the Pakistan World Alliance (PWA), an advocacy group established in December, who are also affiliated with the Norwegian political party Partiet Sentrum.
In a statement on X, Partiet Sentrum confirmed the nomination, stating, “We are pleased to announce on behalf of Partiet Sentrum that, in alliance with an eligible nominator, we have put forward Mr. Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, for the Nobel Peace Prize for his work in advancing human rights and democracy in Pakistan.”
Meanwhile, the former prime minister is spending his third consecutive Eid in Adiala Jail. Due to security concerns, he was not permitted to leave his cell for Eid prayers. While the prison’s main mosque hosted a congregation attended by inmates and jail officials, both Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, remained confined to their respective cells.
Jail sources reported that Khan has not yet changed into new clothes for Eid and continues to observe the occasion in his standard prison attire.
