Imran Khan just political opponent, not enemy: Rana Sanaullah

ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has solved the case of assassination attempt on Chairman PTI Imran Khan, calling it a simple case of religious extremism. He said Chairman PTI, Imran Khan is just a political opponent, and not enemy.

Addressing a press conference, Rana Sanaullah said the act of blaming ‘three personalities’ without any evidence was deplorable, adding that not a single FIR regarding the incident had been registered as yet, and there were reports that the FIR was being ‘managed’.

He said yesterday’s incident was a matter of great concern which reflected the division within the society. He said “we need to think as to how intolerance can be eliminated from our society.”

Rana Sanaullah said so far, 4 deaths had been reported since the start of PTI’s Long March, including the one of Moazzam who lost life in Wazirabad yesterday, adding that Prime Minister had announced assistance for the bereaved families.

Reacting on yesterday’s firing incident at Wazirabad and its aftermath, Rana Sanaullah said PTI leader Asad Umar blamed ‘three personalities’ without any evidence or investigation, and other leaders incited the masses to come out and take revenge. Such attitudes, he said, couldn’t be of any help for democracy in the country. This is the same tone which Imran Khan had been using since 2014, he added.

Rana Sanaullah claimed that the prime suspect involved in yesterday’s assassination attempt in Wazirabad had been arrested and his statement was recorded in Gujrat police station. He said PTI needed to review and revisit security arrangements following yesterday’s incident in Wazirabad. He said through media and a letter, federal government had advised Punjab government to constitute a joint investigation team (JIT) to probe into the incident.
