ISLAMABAD: The Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan has been granted bail by Islamabad High Court (IHC) for two weeks in Al Qadir corruption case.
This came just a day after Supreme Court termed his arrest from the IHC premises by Rangers as “invalid and unlawful”.
A division bench comprising Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb and Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz conducted the hearing at courtroom No.2.
A large number of PTI lawyers and leaders are present in court while heavy contingent of police, FC and Rangers has been deployed to avoid any untoward situation.
During the hearing, Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb asked, “Has martial law been imposed here to stop the hearing of cases?”
Khan’s lawyer, Khawaja Haris, responded to the court, stating that they had learned from media reports that the NAB inquiry had turned into an investigation and the purpose was to arrest Imran Khan.
Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb then asked if a questionnaire had been provided to them in this case and if Imran Khan had appeared before NAB on the notice. The lawyer clarified that a questionnaire was not provided to Imran Khan, only a notice was sent, and Imran Khan did not appear but submitted his answer.
Later, the court granted 2 weeks of interim bail to Imran Khan, and issued notice to NAB before adjourning the hearing.
