LAHORE: The Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has strongly condemned blocking of Punjab health card scheme.

His statement came after media report suggesting that Islamabad had cast off Punjab’s Rs400 billion health insurance scheme in its present form and size, targeting the entire population of the province, including the rich and the poor. The move amid challenging engagements with international lending agencies to unlock external flows for the balance of payments and flood recovery.
Taking to Twitter on Monday, the PTI Chief said the Punjab Health Card scheme was a blessing for the vast majority of the population, especially given the crushing inflation eating into their earnings.

Moreover, he said, the private sector was in the process of setting up hospitals in the rural areas because of health insurance.

“This entire project was applauded by the leading international health journal Lancet. Abolishing it reflects the callous mindset of these two corrupt family parties,” he added.
